THE PAULISTA
Located in central Sao Paulo, Cerqueira Cesar, Bela Vista , Consolacao, and other bordering neighborhoods are better known as The Paulista area. All considered to be upscale neighborhoods, they make up one of the most dynamic and sought after areas in the city. The area offers an exciting nightlife, many theaters, cinemas and a wide variety of shopping and services.
The Paulista's Avenida Paulista, often compared to Fifth Avenue in New York, is at the heart of the neighborhood. It is a financial center, as well as a cultural and educational district with a diverse group of institutions, such as the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo MASP, Latin America's most comprehensive fine-art museum, the Theater Procopio Ferreira dating from 1948, the Ballet Stagium, the Renaissance Theater, as well as several art galleries and art schools.
The area is also known as a residential district with many large apartment buildings and condominiums. This is the case of Consolacao, a classic example of the fusion of modern architecture with the old and elegant architecture of the past. There are also excellent schools and universities in the area, such as the Anglican Saint Paul's school, the Dante Alighieri private school, the Alumni English Language Institute, the Sao Luis University and school, among many others.
The area also hosts some of the best restaurants in Brazil, according to the famous Guia Quatro Rodas. Chef Alex Atala's D.O.M., designated one of the best restaurants in the world by the English Restaurant Magazine is just one of the many excellent restaurants in the area. There is a wide variety of choices with internationally well known chefs.
One of the symbols of the area is Augusta Street in Cerqueira, a famous fashion street from the sixties that currently combines a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants. The area's Galeria Ouro Fino is commonly visited by models, artists and modern fashionistas. Other landmarks in the area are the Conjunto Nacional, the Shopping 3 Center and the Shopping Frei Caneca, all important commercial centers.
The Paulista is easily accessible and has a well-managed public transportation system, with an efficient subway service, bus lines and taxi stands . In addition, there are several heliports, mainly throughout Avenida Paulista.
